Powder coated rims now available in our store!

2019-11-13

We are pleased to announce that for some time we have enriched our store's offer with powder coating painted aluminum rims, i.e. powder coated in free translation. What are the advantages of such a solution and what does the process look like? We invite you to a short description.

As the name suggests, the paint in this process is in the form of a dry powder, which is applied in an electrified form to conductive materials. As a result of electrostatic forces, the powder adheres to the painted surface. This is how this method can be described briefly.

Nevertheless, the first and most important step in powder coating and standard painting is the preparation of the painted surface. It is mainly about the elimination of all kinds of contamination, grease and other defects that may hinder the sticking of the paint. For this purpose, both chemical agents such as phosphates are used, but also physical cleaning of the elements by shot blasting or sandblasting.

The tinted powder is then applied to the element with an electrostatic gun, which gives the ejected particles a positive charge. The powder paint particles then strike the grounded object and stick to it tightly. The painted object is heated to a high temperature, which causes the paint to melt and form a uniform structure. The next stage is hardening of the applied coating, which usually takes place (depending on the painted material and the powder used) after about 10 minutes of heating to a temperature of 200 degrees. Celsius. It should be noted that the painted object is often heated before applying the powdered paint.

The process itself may not be very complicated, but it requires appropriate tools and environment to carry it out. The benefits of this method of painting are, however, very large. From the point of view of using powder coated rims, the most important advantage will be the extraordinary durability of the varnish. The coating is resistant to both high temperature and a greater amount of chemicals. This can be seen, for example, on brake calipers, which are often powder coated but do not lose their charm despite being exposed to temperature. Aluminum rims painted with the "powder coating" method will also not require such careful care in winter. Another advantage is the possibility of using a much thicker layer of varnish, which does not transfer to the formation of varnish defects such as stains. This, in turn, translates into the ease of eliminating surface defects. The manufacturer of powder coated parts himself can, in a way, minimize the already increased production cost, thanks to the extremely low material loss, which in this case is powder. Unused particles can be reused.

We hope to have introduced you to the concept of powder coating a bit. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the process in a short film and we invite you to purchase rims painted with the "powder coating" method.
