Mercedes-Benz W166 class ML III-generation was presented in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. W166 was designed by Emiel Burki, its design was approved on December 16, 2008. The car was produced in the United States and India, and its production ended in 2015.

The III-generation uses a modernized 7-speed automatic transmission. The converted box is designed to reduce fuel consumption. The SUV is powered by three gasoline engines from 306HP to 525HP, and two diesel engines: V6 3.0l 258HP and re-used R4 2.2l 204HP, which was not in the previous version of the ML class. The drive type used in W166 is 4 Matic. The car differs from its predecessor by the front lamps, which have been reduced and increased the grille. The rear lamps are connected and overlap the side of the vehicle. In 2012, Mercedes donated two copies converted into papamobile. A larger area of bulletproof glass was used and the throne was trimmed with white leather.
