How to care for aluminum rims, including chrome rims?
Immediately after purchasing new rims, still smelling of the production process, we can't wait to mount them on our vehicle and take them for a ride, even if it's just a short one. The glances of admiring passersby or the reflections of our dream alloys in shop windows will make us feel incredibly proud . Unfortunately, however, it's incredibly easy to lose this joy. Improper use and lack of proper care can turn once-shiny rims into mediocre, even unattractive rims that, instead of enhancing the vehicle's appearance, actually detract from its overall appearance. How can we prevent this from happening?
Wheel rims are one of the most frequently soiled parts of any car. Contact with mud, brake dust, and salt during winter is normal . Besides negatively impacting their appearance, this situation also significantly impacts their durability and paintwork. Therefore, it's worth knowing how to care for them and have well-maintained, attractive rims year-round.
How to properly maintain and care for rims?

As with other car parts that are constantly exposed to adverse weather conditions, the first step we should take with rims before installation is preparing them for use . Waxing is a good practice, as it provides adequate protection against dirt and salt during winter and makes washing easier later. You can use regular car wax, which is available at almost any supermarket.
The most effective methods for cleaning and caring for aluminum rims
Once the rims are ready for use and they get dirty, the task becomes easier. In many cases, simply rinsing them off with a high-pressure washer, available at most car washes, is sufficient. Then, apply an appropriate layer of a gentle product designed for rim cleaning (the product must not contain any caustic substances) , and the first step is complete. In the next steps, wash the rims again, focusing on difficult-to-remove dirt, such as tar or brake dust. Remember to perform any care on cool rims ; if the rims are hot, the applied detergent may evaporate more quickly, leading to discoloration and peeling of the paint.
If high-pressure washing doesn't produce the desired results (the jet distance from the rim should be kept to a minimum, as high pressure can damage the paint), consider DIY care using gentle cleaning products, which will provide better results. A thorough, meticulous wash will allow you to reach even the hardest-to-reach corners of the rims.
This method is also recommended for any rim imperfections – high-pressure washers can "exploit" chipped and flaked paint, leading to complete damage to the rim.
Chrome or polished rims should be handled with extreme care. Avoid using chemicals unsuitable for them. Another step, polishing , should be added to the above steps. To keep your rims sparkling like new, after washing, polish them dry to give them a shine. Water will leave streaks and dull their shine.
What to use for safe maintenance of aluminum rims?

Following the above recommendations will ensure your rims maintain their attractive appearance and significantly extend their lifespan. Remember to use gentle cleaning products when caring for your alloy wheels – solvents, alcohol, or gasoline can be harmful, causing permanent damage to the paintwork. Therefore, we recommend extreme caution and vigilance when washing. We do not recommend using car washes that use harsh cleaning agents. We have encountered cases where the paintwork was damaged after the first wash. Special care should also be taken when storing rims while using a second set.
