What's new in the World of Tires for the 2016/2017 winter season
The winter season is fast approaching, so it's time to think about safety during this particularly unfavorable period. Experts' opinions are divided, with some arguing that winter tires should be installed when temperatures drop below +7°C, while others suggest that they should only be considered when snow begins to fall and temperatures hover around 0°C. Nevertheless, we believe that you can never have too much safety and suggest not postponing this unavoidable obligation for too long. The pre-winter period is also a time for tire manufacturers to compete and conduct extensive testing of new models. The ADAC test results will be released in September 2016, but we already know a few models that could be the frontrunners.
The world of premium tires sees the most innovations, and Continental is bringing a fresh product to the market with the ContiWinterContact TS860. The tire's tread is very similar to its predecessor, the TS850 , known for its excellent performance and handling characteristics. The manufacturer claims that the new model can brake on wet winter surfaces 5% faster than the previous model. Braking on icy roads is also improved by the same amount. It's worth noting that these parameters haven't resulted in a deterioration in rolling resistance or driving comfort in snow. The figure below shows the improvements in the new tire's individual properties.

The Finnish company Nokian has also introduced the WR A4 model, which, according to the manufacturer, features numerous technologies that prevent aquaplaning and reduce noise, while also improving traction on snowy roads and ensuring precise handling. The Finnish manufacturer declares it an excellent choice for the variable conditions of Polish winters.
However, don't underestimate a tire that isn't new but still offers excellent driving characteristics. This is the Dunlop Winter Sport 5 , designed for fast cars whose drivers require precise handling.
In the mid-range segment, an interesting proposition is a new product from Kleber called the Krisalp HP3. According to the label, this model has a B rating for wet braking, which is an 8% improvement over the HP2 model. The tire's resistance to aquaplaning on straight stretches of road has also been improved by 15% and by 13% in curves. Another brand in this segment is BF Goodrich , which enjoys enormous popularity. This season, it has prepared the G-Force Winter 2 model, combining excellent performance with a low price. Both ratings on the label for this model are B, referring to wet braking performance and fuel economy.
